FG Files 14 New Charges Against Ex-CBN Governor Emefiele

  • Nigeria’s former central bank governor Emefiele faces 14 new charges
  • The charges were amended during a court appearance today.
  • The trial will resume tomorrow.

On Thursday, January 18, 2024, the Federal Government of Nigeria amended the charges against former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele from six to twenty during a court appearance before Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court.

The new charges now include criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit felony.

Prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo said he had served the defence team with the amended charges.

Emefiele’s lawyer Mathew Burkaa responded that he needed time to review the new charges before his client could enter a plea.

The judge then adjourned the case to Friday, January 19.
