Two Lives Lost, Survivor Hospitalized as Fatal Fire Engulfs Petrol Tanker Near Ebonyi Airport

The Ebonyi State Government, led by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Petroleum, Nnaemeka Nwafor, has acknowledged a petrol tanker incident on the well-known Abakaliki-Afikpo Expressway.

This event led to a fire outbreak that consumed a tanker and various belongings.

As per Vanguard, two individuals lost their lives immediately, while another is currently receiving medical attention in the hospital.

While the survivor is undergoing urgent medical care, the deceased bodies have been placed in the mortuary.

The SSA reassured motorists, pedestrians, and other road users, urging them not to be alarmed as the Ebonyi State Government has effectively managed the situation, resulting in unimpeded traffic in the area.

According to him, “There is no cause to be afraid over the petrol tanker accident at Onueke Airport flyover junction.

“Ebonyi State government is on top of it to stop the menace and create free flow traffic in the the area,” he added.

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, and other security agencies, along with Ebonyi state fire service personnel, were present to facilitate traffic flow.

Nnaemeka praised the Ebonyi State Fire Service for their dedicated efforts in extinguishing the fire and expressed gratitude to the youths who assisted in the operation.

“Ndi Ebonyi are advised to obey the directives of security agencies on the diversion of roads. It is obedience to roads signs that guarantees a hitch free traffic flow.

“Motorists are advised to be cautious in the area as the government is ensuring a hitch-free evacuation of the affected tanker.

“The government of Nwifuru Ogbonna is committed to safeguarding the lives and properties of Ndi Ebonyi.

“Let’s continue to support the state government as it discharges its responsibility towards Ndi Ebonyi,” he said.
