Andreas Christensen

Barcelona put Andreas Christensen up for sale, Man United, and Tottenham battle to sign him

The Red Devils and Spurs are the main interested parties in signing the versatile Dane, who is no longer indispensable for Barça.

Barcelona have just over a week to resolve their salary cap problems, which have forced them to sell players to make room for new signings. The Catalan club urgently need to bring in at least two new players, specifically a left winger and a right back, as well as being able to register Dani Olmo. However, to do so, they must get rid of several members of the squad to balance their finances.

According to Sport, the expendable players include Ansu Fati, who is no longer in the club’s plans, and one of their central defenders. The focus has now turned to Christensen and Eric Garcia, with the club looking to get one of the two players before the transfer window closes.

The final decision on which player will leave will depend on the offers the club receives and the potential financial savings or income generated by the sale. Christensen is seen as a more valuable asset in the transfer market and the Catalan club would be willing to do business with him for €25m, while the player is keen to leave in order to achieve regularity in central defence, his favourite position.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham have shown keen interest in signing Christensen, should he become available.

The Danish centre-back’s agent also represents Ilkay Gundogan. He has extensive knowledge of the Premier League market. He has already received enquiries from a number of English clubs.

Christensen has previously been linked with a move to Newcastle United. The Magpies’ financial fair play restrictions have limited their ability to make a serious offer.

The transfer market closes in a matter of days, so the timing is crucial for all parties involved. Barcelona must carefully consider their options, as the sale of Christensen or Garcia will directly impact their ability to make new signings or, more importantly, to register Dani Olmo in La Liga.

Hansi Flick benched the Dane against Valencia and it remains to be seen whether he will use him against Athletic Club on Saturday in their next La Liga game.
