Equatorial Guinea

On day 10 of the Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast faced a humiliating 4-0 defeat by Equatorial Guinea, leaving them on the brink of elimination. Despite two disallowed goals and missed chances, Equatorial Guinea secured a surprise group win.

Nigeria sealed their spot in the last 16 with a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau, thanks to Sangante’s own goal. Equatorial Guinea’s victory in the same group pushed Nigeria to finish second, setting up a meeting with Group C runners-up.

Egypt managed to scrape into the last 16 with a thrilling 2-2 draw against Cape Verde, with goals from Trezeguet and Mostafa Mohamed. Despite falling behind, Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Mozambique allowed Egypt to cling onto second place.

Finally, Ghana conceded twice in stoppage time against Mozambique, drawing 2-2. Despite Jordan Ayew’s penalties, Egypt secured second place in Group B, making Ghana’s qualification unlikely as one of the best third-placed teams.
