FC Barcelona Secure First Summer Signing

Catalan media reports that FC Barcelona has already secured a summer signing behind the scenes. The club, led by Xavi, is facing a challenging season, struggling under criticism from both the press and fans, especially after their recent defeat against Girona. However, the crisis extends beyond the pitch to the financial realm.

FC Barcelona is in a precarious financial position, exacerbated by La Liga’s stringent financial fair play regulations. Consequently, they may be compelled to offload key players like Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, or Raphinha to balance the books. Despite rumours linking the club to players like Bernardo Silva or Joshua Kimmich, significant strengthening seems unlikely.

In response, Barcelona is opting for cost-effective transfers. Sport reports that they have already finalized one such move for the upcoming season. Guido Rodriguez, the Argentine midfielder from Betis, who was previously linked to OL, has agreed to join Barcelona. The 2022 world champion, whose contract is expiring, has been secured by Deco.

Since Rodriguez is nearing the end of his contract and is highly sought after by other European clubs, Barcelona won’t have to pay a transfer fee. The 30-year-old midfielder, a favourite of Xavi‘s, is set to replace Oriol Romeu, who is likely to leave this summer. Is this a savvy move? Only time will tell.
