“I’m a pure Yoruba man”: Emmanuel Adebayor Reveals His Yoruba Heritage
Former Arsenal and Tottenham player Emmanuel Adebayor revealed his Yoruba heritage despite representing Togo internationally.
The Togolese nationality revealed in an interview with Nigeria’s Television Continental (TVC) that he is a typical Yoruba man.
He explained that, while he grew up in Togo, he has Nigerian roots through his parents. Adebayor’s father is Adeyi Adebayor, and his mother is Alice Eniola Adekanye.
He clarified, “My father’s name is Adeyi Adebayor, and my mother’s name is Alice Eniola Adekanye. So, I am a pure Yoruba man. I was just born and raised in Togo, but I am fully from Nigeria.”
The former African Player of the Year took part in a special match that African football legends organized while he was visiting Nigeria.
The football match was to honoured former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha on his 50th birthday.
