Rivers United name Nyima Nwagua as club captain ahead of new NPFL season
Ahead of the new NPFL season, Nyima Nwagua becomes the new captain of Rivers United, taking over from Austine Festus, who was previously the captain.
On Monday morning, the Port Harcourt club made the announcement on their official Twitter account.
“We are delighted to announce that Nyima Nwagua has been named our new team captain. We wish @Nyimason28 every success as our captain,”
Daily Stand Nigeria recalls that striker Nyima Nwagua joined River United in 2021 after leaving Kano Pillars. However, Austine Festus, the former captain, has retired from active football and is now the team coordinator.
The club expressed their excitement about the appointments and wished both Nyima Nwagua and Festus Austin success in their new roles.
“We are also delighted to announce that Festus Austin has been appointed our new Team Coordinator,”reads a statement from the Port Harcourt club.
“Austin, a dedicated solid centre-back during his active days assumes the new role ahead of the new season having served dutifully as our captain
We wish Festus Austin every success.”
