Kane-Less Spurs Battle to Thrilling 2-2 Draw in EPL Opener Against Brentford
Tottenham Hotspur played their first match without Harry Kane, drawing 2-2 against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Ange Postecoglou’s team faced Thomas Frank’s side in the Premier League (PL) opener.
The game in the capital started late due to a stadium sanitation issue. Despite this, the match was action-packed.
James Maddison, who had contributed seven goals in previous meetings, scored with a free-kick. However, Cristian Romero got injured, causing problems for the Spurs’ defense.
Referee Robert Jones awarded a penalty to Brentford after Son Heung-min’s trip on Mathias Jensen. Bryan Mbeumo converted the penalty. Yoane Wissa then scored for Brentford, and Emerson Royal equalized for Spurs before halftime.
The second half saw Son miss a chance to score, and energy levels dropped. The match ended 2-2, continuing Brentford’s streak of not losing on PL opening days.
Postecoglou’s debut as manager showed promise, and he aims to break Spurs’ trend of changing managers each season.
