Burnley ended their three-game losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. VAR controversially denied them their first league win of the season. Manager Vincent Kompany found some positives and believes they will earn more points. However, they must improve their defense (they’ve conceded 12 goals) and stop their losing streak at home.
Burnley hasn’t lost four consecutive home games since the end of the 2020–21 season. Kompany may embrace the challenge of facing Manchester United, who are struggling. Burnley hasn’t had much success against them historically, winning only two out of their last meetings dating back to 1968.
The current Manchester United team is quite different from the past. They recently suffered a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich, marking their third consecutive loss under Erik ten Hag. He questioned his players’ determination and urged them to address their defensive issues. United haven’t conceded three or more goals in three consecutive games since 1978.
Manchester United’s recent records are not favourable. They’ve lost four of their first six matches, a situation not seen since 1986/87. They’ve struggled on the road, losing 18 out of their last 35 away games in all competitions, with only 13 wins and 4 draws. However, they’ve won their last five matches against newly promoted teams away from home.
Players to keep an eye on are Zeki Amdouni, who will handle the goal-scoring responsibilities with Lyle Foster suspended. Amdouni has scored four of his last five club goals in the second half. Rasmus Højlund, who recently scored against Bayern, also tends to make an impact in the second half, with ten of his last 11 goals coming after halftime.
In the last nine meetings at Turf Moor, none have seen more than two total match goals.
