Governor Hope Uzodinma Switches Deputy Ahead of Coming Election

Imo State’s Governor Hope Uzodinma revealed his running mate, Chinyere Ekomaru, for the upcoming November 11, 2023 governorship election. The unveiling happened in Owerri on a Saturday.

Governor Uzodinma explained his choice to switch from his current deputy, Placid Njoku, to Mrs. Ekomaru.

He clarified that this change wasn’t due to problems with Deputy Governor Placid Njoku but rather resulted from various political considerations.

In his statement, he said, “The choice of a new running mate does not mean I have issues with the present Deputy Governor Placid Njoku.“The development is due to ecumenical and political permutations.”

This decision positions Governor Uzodinma to face off against challengers like Lincoln Ogunewe of the Action Alliance, Senator Samuel Anyanwu from the Peoples Democratic Party, and Senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party.

Notably, Ogunewe and Senator Anyanwu hail from Imo East, Senator Athan represents Imo North, and Uzodimma is from Imo West.
