Gambian bride Meta Mbye passes virginity test, sparking mixed reactions
A Gambian bride named Meta Mbye received 28,000 dalasi (357,000 naira) from her husband after passing a virginity test, according to tradition.
The family celebrated with joyful dancing in their home village. One of Meta’s cousins said the husband “was so happy that was why he gave her” the money, which he placed under her pillow.
The video sparked varied reactions online – some congratulated her on passing the exam, while others called for ending the test, claiming it is demeaning.
The family was overjoyed as they broke into a joyful dance when the bride, Meta, passed the exam.
