What is MTN?

MTN is a South African telecommunication company that operates across Africa and Asia.

Its headquarters are in Johannesburg. In December 2020, MTN had 280 million subscribers, making it Africa’s largest and the world’s 7th largest mobile network operator.

Currently, MTN is the largest Network provider for Nigerians.

What is MTN Share?

MTN Share, or Share ‘N’ Sell, is an MTN service enabling users to transfer airtime (credit) to other MTN customers’ accounts.

It’s available to both new and existing prepaid and postpaid customers on the MTN network.

Share your airtime with family and friends conveniently to stay connected effortlessly.

Can I transfer airtime on MTN without pin?

No, you can’t. But you can change your pin if it is the first time you want to use the service.

So, How can you change your pin? Follow the below steps;

To transfer airtime, first, you need change the default PIN (0000).

To change your MTN Share PIN, use either of these methods:

  1. Send an SMS to 321 with this format: Default PIN New PIN New PIN. For example, send an SMS with ‘0000 1234 1234’ to 321.
  2. Dial *321*Default PIN*New PIN* New PIN# on your phone, then press send/OK (e.g., *321*0000*1234*1234#).

Once you change your PIN using any of these methods, you’ll receive an SMS confirming the successful update.

After setting your pin, you can now transfer airtime from one MTN SIM to another using the pin anytime. If you feel like you want to change your pin again, you can also follow the above step (you default pin will be the existing pin).

#Method 1: How to transfer airtime using USSD

  • To transfer airtime, dial *321*Recipient’s Number*Amount*PIN# on your phone, then press send/OK. For instance, dial *321*08031234567*1500*1234# and press send/OK. After completion, you’ll get a success message.

Now, let us check the second method that we can use to transfer airtime on MTN sim;

#Method 2: Transfer airtime using SMS easily

  • Send an SMS to 321 with Transfer, Recipient’s Number, Amount, and PIN. For example, ‘Transfer 08031234567 1500 1234’.
  • After sending, you’ll get an SMS to confirm the transfer. Reply ‘YES’ to 321.

That is not all about using MTN Share. There are things you need to be aware of, when using MTN Share n Sell. What are the things?

Things to know before using MTN Share

You can;

  • Transfer only Naira amounts, not kobo. For instance, transfer NGN71.00, not NGN71.99.
  • Transfer between NGN50.00 – NGN5,000.00 in one transaction.
  • Transfer up to NGN100,000.00 to one or multiple MTN accounts daily from your phone.
  • There’s no limit to the maximum daily transactions.
  • If your MTN prepaid account lacks sufficient airtime for the transfer, the transaction will fail, and you’ll receive an error message.
  • Postpaid customers can transfer airtime only when their account is positive. When the balance is N-300.00, they can’t use MTN Share. When it’s N1,000.00, they can transfer up to N1,000.00.
