Super Eagles: Luton Striker Elijah Adebayo Eyes Nigeria Call-Up

Luton Town’s striker Elijah Adebayo has declared his ambition to play for Nigeria’s national team. He aims to represent the Super Eagles.

The 26-year-old led Luton’s promotion to EPL push this season. He scored nine goals in 23 appearances after Luton gained promotion to the Premier League.

Adebayo who is 6ft 4in tall believes his Nigerian heritage and impressive form could earn him a Super Eagles call-up.

In his post on X formerly Twitter, he said “Heritage is big for me, obviously.”

“My mum was born in Nigeria and she came here (in England) and I have been back to Nigeria when I was young and I am obviously looking forward to go again,” Adebayo said.

“My grandma lives in Nigeria, so the heritage is there. I am proud to be Nigerian and I would love to play for Nigeria. So, it’s a case of my mum would be very proud if I play for Nigeria as well.”

Adebayo’s rise saw him go from non-league football to becoming influential in Luton’s Premier League promotion push.

His physicality, aerial threat, and ability to lead the line made him a handful for Premier League defences this term.

If he maintains those levels and fires Luton to a shock top-flight return, Adebayo’s case for an international call-up would become difficult for Nigeria’s Super Eagles to ignore.

With Nigeria looking to rebound from World Cup disappointment, Adebayo’s form could put him in contention as an outside shout for competitive action on the Eagles’ radar.
