Security forces successfully rescued 21 individuals who were reported missing along the Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Kogi State.

The rescue operation, carried out by a team of law enforcement personnel, involved members of the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes.

The victims, which included travellers, students, and Comprehensive High School staff from Ajaokuta, were abducted on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

According to Onogwu Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Yahaya Bello, the captors had taken the victims to an undisclosed location within the dense forest near Ajaokuta Local Government Area.

Governor Bello responded swiftly to the distressing incident, issuing directives for immediate action by security agencies and local vigilantes to secure the captives’ freedom.

The governor stressed the need to apprehend the perpetrators of the reprehensible act.

Within 48 hours, the combined efforts of the security forces led to the successful release of the 21 captives.

Some kidnappers were apprehended during the operation, while efforts continued to track down those still at large.

Governor Bello expressed relief and satisfaction with the operation’s outcome, commending the security operatives for their effective response.

He reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the state’s residents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and security.
