Julen Lopetegui signs for West Ham

Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui has signed a contract to coach West Ham starting June 30. He chose West Ham’s project over offers from Milan and Bayern. Last summer, he left Wolverhampton due to squad disagreements. He stayed in the UK hoping for a Premier League project.

West Ham chose Lopetegui to replace Moyes, whose contract ends this season. Lopetegui prefers West Ham’s project and the chance to build it anew. This led him to choose West Ham over Bayern and Milan.

Manchester United was also an option, but the timing didn’t allow for waiting for developments. Ten Hag’s future at United remains unclear.

Rúben Amorim and Thomas Tuchel were rumoured for the job, but Lopetegui will lead a team aiming for European places, boasting players like Lucas Paquetá, Mohammed Kudus, and Jarrod Bowen.
