EPL: Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs Secure First Win Against Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur secured their first win under the era of new boss Ange Postecoglou against Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after failing to win in their last four meetings.
Despite a 1-0 win against Wolves on the opening weekend, Manchester United’s performance was not up to par, as acknowledged by their manager Erik ten Hag.
United started strongly, and Bruno Fernandes attempted an inventive Rabona pass to an unmarked Marcus Rashford in the box, but Rashford’s header missed the target.
Fernandes had a chance to score 10 minutes before halftime, but his header from a perfect cross by Luke Shaw also missed the mark.
Just before halftime, Pedro Porro’s shot for Tottenham hit the crossbar, sparing United from conceding a goal.
Tottenham took the lead in the second half with a quick start. Dejan Kulusevski’s cross was converted into a goal by Pape Matar Sarr. However, the hosts almost lost their advantage as Antony’s shot for United hit the post.
As the game progressed, it was clear that Manchester United faced similar problems as in their previous match against Wolves, struggling to create scoring opportunities.
Tottenham, having conceded twice in their previous game, managed to secure their lead in the final 10 minutes.
Ben Davies finished off a flowing move, sealing their victory and marking their first Premier League head-to-head win against United since a 6-1 triumph at Old Trafford in 2020.
