The Head coach of the South African women’s national team, Desiree Ellis has commented that women’s football in South Africa has suffered as a result of the Banyana Banyana’s inability to make it to the Olympics.
Daily Stand Nigeria recalls that Super Falcons of Nigeria held the African champions to a goalless draw (0-0) in Pretoria on Tuesday night.
The returning leg result was not enough for Banyana Banyana of South Africa to proceed as the Super Falcons won the first leg 1-0 in Abuja last week.
According to Desiree Ellis;
‘It’s a big disappointment not just for us but for everyone involved in women’s football because we didn’t go in 2020, we were in a similar situation where we had so many chances to – but didn’t go to the next round.
“Likewise we didn’t go to the Olympics because of this, it will take a while to recover from this though,” she added.
Banyana Banyana’s focus will now be on defending its WAFCON championship this summer.
