Atletico Madrid’s summer transfer activities continue as they send Santiago Mourino on loan to Real Zaragoza.
Santiago Mourino, a promising Uruguayan player, had joined Atletico Madrid from Nacional in July as part of a defensive overhaul by coach Diego Simeone for the upcoming 2023–24 season.
In recent weeks, Atletico Madrid has signed four defenders, including Mourino, reflecting Simeone’s effort to strengthen the defence for both domestic and Champions League matches.
Uncertain about retaining Mourino for the upcoming months, Simeone emphasized his versatility as a valuable asset. Now, Simeone has decided to approve a season-long loan for the 21-year-old, who will join his new teammates immediately.
Real Zaragoza, which finished in the middle of the table during the 2022–23 season, is hopeful that Mourino’s addition can improve their chances of securing a playoff spot.
During this summer, other Atletico players, Victor Mollejo and German Valera, have also completed loan moves to Zaragoza.
