Tobi Amusan Cleared for Budapest World Championship
Tobi Amusan, the reigning champion in the 100-meter hurdles, has been given permission by World Athletics to compete in this month’s world championship held in Budapest, Hungary. Her chance to defend the title she holds is now open.
World Athletics, the governing body for athletes, has named Amusan to the list of Nigerian athletes set to take part in the tournament. Her ability to participate, however, depends on how well she handles an Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) charge of anti-doping rule violation.
Amusan, aged 26, faced provisional suspension by the AIU last month due to missing three drug tests. In response, she chose to challenge the accusation.
Tobi Amusan has already secured victories in Nigeria, African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, and Diamond League competitions, yet the World Championships title has eluded her defence so far.
Marked on the calendar for August 19 to 27, the 2023 World Athletics Championships will be held during this time.
