The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen motor vehicles using the Nigeria Police Force’s Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform.
This achievement stressed the effectiveness of the e-CMR system in combating vehicle theft across the country.
According to the Command, the first incident occurred on 1 January 2025 in Zuba, Abuja, when two suspects posing as potential buyers at a car stand stole a Toyota Corolla 2014 model during a test drive.
The suspects reportedly brandished a pistol, threatened the car dealer, and escaped with the vehicle, including its original documents and keys.
In a separate case on 4 January 2025, a Mercedes Benz C300 was reported stolen outside Luxirian Event Center in Nassarawa GRA, Kano.
The car belonged to a resident of Hadejia Road, Kano.
Acting swiftly on these reports, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, directed the Anti-Car Theft Unit to recover the stolen vehicles.
Between 10 and 15 January 2025, the detectives successfully located the vehicles using information from the e-CMR platform.
The Toyota Corolla was recovered behind Old Airport in Bauchi State, while the Mercedes Benz C300 was found in Shagari Quarters, Kano. Investigations into the cases are ongoing.
Police encourage vehicle registration on e-CMR
The Commissioner of Police commended the detectives for their dedication and the public for their support.
He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the e-CMR platform by registering their vehicles at cmris.npf.gov.ng, as this system significantly aids in preventing and addressing vehicle theft.
The Command also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station or via the following hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, assured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining security and combating crime in Kano State.
