Bandit Attack Claims Three Lives in Sokoto’s Soro Community
The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed a suspected bandit attack that happened on Monday in the Soro community of the state’s Binji Local Government Area and resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to others, according to PUNCH Newspaper.
While verifying the attack, ASP Ahmad Rufai of the state police said that some gunmen, who were likely bandits, attacked the Soro community. However, the men of the command quickly rushed in and effectively repulsed the attack with the assistance of military personnel.
However, according to the police spokesman, the attackers set some homes on fire out of frustration, which resulted in the deaths of three residents and varying degrees of injuries for a few more.
Sources in the impacted area revealed that the marauders had, regrettably, successfully kidnapped a number of other people.
A local hunter told our journalist that “eight people, mostly women, were abducted and carried away on motorcycles by the bandits.”
According to some community members who spoke to The PUNCH about the incident, some vigilante groups that attacked a Fulani community in retaliation caused a situation that required the police commissioner, Ali Kaigama, to intervene and start a dialogue among the locals of the affected areas.
